World Animal Day

Theme of World Animal Day 2024
This year's theme, "The world is their home too," underscores the idea that animals are not merely residents of the planet but integral components of our ecosystem.

World Animal Day is celebrated annually on October 4th to raise awareness about animal rights and welfare. The day was first organized by Heinrich Zimmermann, a cynologist and animal protection advocate, on March 24, 1925, at the Sport Palace in Berlin, Germany. Over 5,000 people attended this inaugural event.

Zimmermann initially chose October 4th to align with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, but the venue was unavailable on that date. The event was moved to October 4th starting in 19291. In 1931, at a congress of the International Animal Protection Congress in Florence, Italy, Zimmermann’s proposal to make October 4th World Animal Day was universally accepted.

Since then, World Animal Day has grown into a global movement, supported by various organizations and individuals who advocate for animal welfare. The day is marked by events, campaigns, and activities aimed at improving the lives of animals and promoting their protection.
